If sleeping at night is a thing that you do, you might not want to have a room here. The bass from the nightclubs is nonstop. If there is a truck, motorcycle, etc outside, you'll hear it. For me personally I have misophonia so all these sounds are really bothering me.You have to have a key card to use the elevator and get into the room. It's a little redundant since if you can use one then you can use the other. Still, it's nice to have a piece of mind.

Super cool old building and really nice rooms. Very clean. Great friendly staff. Four issues; it is loud, cars, dump trucks, maintenance trucks, even people talking on the sidewalk, you will hear all of it. They should do something to help with sound proofing. Second, the windows on the outside were filthy, third, and the most important, is the mattress is horrible, I haven't woke up with back pain in years until staying here. Forth is there are homeless and people shooting up drugs everywhere in the area, the city needs to fix this if they expect people to return for vacations. Businesses in the area need to lobby to clean things up. I would stay here again despite the issues, especially if they replace the mattresses, I recommended sleep number so that everyone can adjust to the firmness that works for them. The rooftop patio is super awesome with great views.

A great boutique hotel in the Gas Lamp district that used to house business when it was built in 1913! Love the large rooms with beautiful views and mega comfy bed and living room. A highlight was the room area with free tea and coffee and amazing views over the city especially at sunset! The Gas Lamp district is a great area, with lots of bars, restaurants and historic buildings. 15 mins walk to Padres Stadium and 20 mins to the waterfront which is beautiful.Only down point is there are a lot of homeless people and drug users. We never felt uneasy, but always be aware of your surroundings!

Check in process was quite a task and did not inspire confidence from the start of our stay. Took about 10 minutes despite being the only ones there. Room was hot as the ac unit did not work. Bathroom fan sounded like a lawn mower. Not a huge deal except it was motion sensor activated so it woke my wife when I used the restroom. Sheets were rough texture. Room was clean and nice other than that but heat made it uncomfortable. Room was loud until about 3am from the party crowd outside in surrounding area. Could hear someone playing drums at 2:30 am. Needles to say, we won't be back. Actually, won't be staying in gaslamp again because I suspect every hotel in the area will be loud until the bars shut down.

I booked this with an online website. When I checked in I saw that the room was a disappointing “dump” for the money (old, dark, dated). The rooms looked nothing like the website photos. I went to reception and asked if there was any problem cancelling the room, and they said there was no problem. Later I found on my credit card they charged me a full night without informing me. If I knew that I would have stayed that night and moved hotels afterwards instead of having to pay for the price of two rooms for one night. Stay Away!!!

This hotel is located within walking distance of plenty of restaurants, bars and also night life. The rooms were great, clean and they have a beautiful view on the roof. Plenty of parking lots nearby. Valet was 40 a day and was worth it.

My husband and I stayed at the Gas Lamp Plaza Suites and we loved our experience! This was our first time staying in the Gas Lamp District so we weren’t sure what to expect. The staff was so kind and happily answered any of our questions, their smiling faces made our day every time. Valet is one of the least expensive in town, and was absolutely worth it. The street can be a bit loud, but nothing that shouldn’t be expected for the location. We also LOVE art deco and the vibe of the hotel was perfect for us.

This hotel is the only place to stay in San Diego, the staff are so friendly the rooms are art deco opulent and take you back in time. The people on the front desk made our stay so wonderful. To any Australians, you will love this place it’s a must.

Hotel with a character and an amazing location that offers dozens of options for nightlife and restaurants. There's a sweet rooftop area where you can hang out, and there's a TV and complimentary coffee there. Rooms are clean but the "character" might not be for everyone (if you're into modern looking hotels, this won't be your cup of tea). Valet parking is convenient but pricey at $40 per night. There's a bar downstairs that is one of the best bars in the area and visitors get to skip the line outside to get in. Great value overall.

Very nice hotel in an old converted bank building. The wonderful person at the front desk gave us a great upgrade because it was my wife's birthday. The room was perfect but unfortunately as we stayed just one night, we didn't get to enjoy more of the hotel itself. It was cold and rainy as well but we still partied our butts off. Right next to the hotel was an underground bar with dancing and even a quick cabaret show. I wasn't ready for that but it was nice.

This is so far my favorite hotel in SD and I’ve only stayed in two so take this into consideration. I stayed here 3/10 to 3/11/2024. I enjoyed my experience here. The manager gave me a free upgrade. It was such an outstanding experience. I got lucky that day. Amazing rooftop and wish I stayed there more than just a night. I had work in the area and they held on to my luggage until I was ready to head to the airport. Wonderful customer service.

Great hotel in a beautiful historic building. One of the first sky scrapers in downtown San Diego, built in 1913. Very friendly staff. Not your modern day high-end hotel by any means, but has more character than any of those and all the basics you need: TV, USB plugs, adjustable AC/Heat, mini-fridge, microwave etc. Great room rates for downtown SD as well. I will be back next time I'm in town!

Located right in the GASLAMP Quarter, so convenient to bars, restaurants, shopping and even a movie theater within walking distance. Oh and a Major League Baseball stadium is also in walking distance. This is a beautifully restored historical building with a rooftop area where guests can get breakfast daily. There’s also a nice view and it’s a good place to just hang out. The beds are comfortable and the bathrooms well equipped. The staff has been here for a while so know the property and the area like the back of their hands. I highly recommend your stay.

We were staying at the Wyndham around the corner which shares a valet station with this hotel. While getting into our vehicle at the valet station, our 3 year old said he needed to use the restroom to which the valet said ‘right this way’ and brought us inside the hotel. Upon entry, Mary at the desk shouted ‘this isn’t a public bathroom’. The valet proceeded to guide us to the elevator stating ‘they are staying next door and the little one has to go to the restroom’. She proceeded to say ‘too bad’. My husband explained how this was a bathroom emergency as he’s only 3 and recently potty-trained. Mary continued to state we were not allowed and she put her hand in my husband’s face, very aggressive behavior to demonstrate, especially in front of children. The valet didn’t care and brought us anyway which resulted in a ‘you better come talk to me when you’re done’ from Mary. She yelled at us multiple times with a lobby full of people. When we tried to talk to a manager, he stood up for Mary and said how ‘you have to understand, we have a lot of homeless people in this city’.A few points:1. Our child is 3. A 3 year old should never be denied a bathroom.2. Our child was clearly not a homeless person off the street.3. The valet that is in front of this building and shares a valet station with this hotel brought us into the hotel.4. We had no idea that the bathroom was not supposed to be for our use (again, the employee brought us in there) therefore this ‘scene’ should have been carried out privately among staff and NOT in front of guests, especially our 3 young children.

I enjoyed my 3 night stay here, but probably would not stay again as I don't think it offers a value greater than other mid-tier hotels in the area.Pros:Great serviceBeautiful old building with nice rooftop deckCold ACNicely furnished roomReceived an upgrade to a suite, which was spacious with a gorgeous viewVery cleanCons:Limited amenities on property, including no breakfast option (just coffee/water in the rooftop deck), which I feel negates savings because breakfast out in the area is quite pricey for even something basicCondition of the furniture and bathroom in the room is just ok, a bit wornBed was small (full size)TINY safe deposit box that would not fit a laptop or other valuable electronicsNoise from Gaslamp was a bit much at night, even on a high floor

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED it here! Our stay was amazing. The rooms were real spacious and comfy the bed felt like home. It’s walking distance to everything. PAUL was absolutely the sweetest and so helpful (valet) he honestly needs a raise he’s to good at his job. It’s worth paying the $40 it’s right next to the hotel. Don’t second guess this hotel you won’t regret it!

We loved our overnight stay at Gaslamp Plaza Suites! It was conveniently located near the Balboa Theater. It was within walking distance of many bars and restaurants; it is ideally situated. We couldn't find our way to pull into the valet parking because they had closed off 5th Avenue to through traffic, so we parked in the Ace Parking next door: nothing happened to our car. The suite was luxuriously comfy with a lovely view down onto the streets. We would definitely return, if need be.

My best friend and I stood here in the Gaslamp Plaza Suites, and we enjoyed our stay. Everyone was nice, informative, helpful, and just lovely. Our room was phenomenal, and our view was amazing. It can be loud in the streets below as there are clubs and restaurants but it's a must to visit. There are a lot of homeless people, but they don't bother you. We took the trolleys and buses everywhere.

Was happily greeted by front desk! Rooms were nice and clean! Location is awesome! Would of been all across 5 star, however, as much as I fought for our well deserved deposit back I NEVER received! Manager tried and tried to help me but corporate would not and they blamed my bank. My bank Chase looked several different times to see if corporate even tried to give me my deposit back and they did NOT! Again, the manager there was fantastic! She was very sympathetic and tried several times to help me!

My check-in was speedy and easy. Everyone was friendly and efficient. The property and the rooms are very clean. My room was excellent; it was quiet at night - and I had a beautiful view. The location is very walkable, and it’s easy to get an Uber or a taxi. The property is an old building that I think used to be an office building. The lobby is tiny, and there are no amenities in the lobby. Just a little front desk. It’s nice, but it’s a small lobby.Overall, it’s a convenient value hotel in a central location.

Please be mindful if you are considering this hotel!!! Please carefully read the reviews: I did NOT when I booked and learnt a lesson. It is true that their so called "standard room" that I booked is like a closet. The picture in their website is not very clear and they use mirror to make the room look bigger particularly in the picture. The hotel is old and not well maintained. Also it is true that their front desk is rude as other reviewers noted. Please be mindful.

Not a review on the hotel, but on the company.I had booked here but cancelled my booking because I found a nicer hotel for a better price. However, 4 months after my "non-visit" I am still get calls by their new management company to leave a review and if I want to win "free trips". Every time I ask them to remove my phone number from their list but this doesn't stop them to call me with new offers.Whatever you do, don't give them your phone number.

Liked the place for convenience to convention hall ! Although I was on the 10th floor lots of noise from Gaslight district eminates through nice glass windows ! Lots of breakfast places on 7 th and restaurants + bars on 6th . Unfortunately the Valet guy led me astray and wasted my time on the supposed free shuttle to the convention! It really soured my trip wasted so much time waiting I missed my meeting! That's why service was rated below avg! He should know better

Great location, just off Fifth Ave where all the restaurants and bars are. Rooms were very nice and clean - had a junior suite with a sitting area.Staff were excellent the valet staff were awesome!!! All of them!Tried the wine bar - great charcuterie board and wine selection.Didn't find it to noisy but there was some as it is downtown but as it is slightly off the main drag not as too bad. We were also on a higher floor so that might of helped.Rooftop patio has great views a little Chilly when we were there so didn't use it, but had coffee and a water dispenser.Parking used the Valet parking and as mentioned they were great- this was mainly because we were keeping our golf clubs in the vehicle and they use a secured garage. There is a small surface lot next door run by Ace not sure of the daily cost.About a 20 minute walk to the waterfrontAlso recommend going to Henry's Pub - great happy hour and live ?

The staff was GREAT! I love that it has a family-managed feel to the hotel. Everyone from the valet to the young man mopping the floors. Our room wasn't large, but it was fine for the night. Our friends had a sitting area which was nice and it didn't cost much more. The building is beautiful, the detail and craftsmanship alone makes it worth staying there. The view from the rooftop was amazing. Coffee was good too!

Loved our stay at this historic hotel. The architecture is unique and historic. The location is in a convenient location to the conference center (0.5 mile). The staff is very friendly and someone is always at the front desk which made us feel safe. Beautiful view of downtown from the rooftop. Tons restaurants and things to do surrounding the hotel. One thing to note is that there’s a lot of nightlife noise. We used a white noise app to drown out the noise, otherwise the nightlife is loud since you are literally staying right in the hub of everything. Also the decor is much more dated than the pictures look online. Not an issue for us though. We would come back!

This place is absolutely awful. The pictures do not match the room at all. It is not simply a size issue which I understand completely and is not an issue. It is standard and excepted practice that hotel rooms are are made to look bigger in pictures versus real life. That is not a problem at all.The issue here is that the pictures show a completely different configuration and type of room than the room that is given to me as a paying guest. When this issue and discrepancy is brought up to the front desk, they act like the rooms are completely the same. It is obvious from the pictures that the rooms are very very different. In addition to the bait and switch aspect, the staff here are not very pleasant, somewhat unprofessional, uncaring, and a bit rude. I do not understand the high scores that this hotel has received. Based on this and the photos I booked this hotel you are in for a shock once in. I checked out immediately, and had to forfeit one day of rent.I immediately checked into the Hyatt, which was a breath of fresh air and much cheaper than this hotel. Please save yourself. The loss of money time and great aggravation by not booking this hotel in the first place. It was a major major mistake on my part.

I absolutely love this quaint hotel. I did not expect that it would be as wonderful as it was however after staying for a week I am convinced this is an absolute gem! The staff are beyond amazing and ready to accommodate to what ever you need. The hotel is spotless and the staff takes great pride as they are always smiling and pleasant (from the vallets to the welcome desk to the cleaning and maintenance staff). The fresh coffee and clean rooftop were a bonus! The feeling of historical ambiance lies throughout the building and the views from the rooftop are stellar. Easy to get any where in San Diego from here is a bonus. (These pictures are from the rooftop terrace).

People working there were great, except as soon as we got to our room, My 3 year old daughter kept saying she could see a ghost. She kept pointing towards the entrance and kept saying there was a ghost and kept asking if we could see it. The good thing was that she didn't seem to be afraid of it. The next day right before we left the room to check out, my daughter said "happy ghost, it's ugly" ....lol it was probably happy we were leaving. Also I forgot my birkenstocks and they were nice enough to ship them out to me.But anyways if yall wana stay in a haunted room, ask to stay in room 907.

The check in process was very quick and simple. We used their valet services for $38 which goes until 3:00 PM the next day. It is equivalent to the ace parking next door if not cheaper. The room was very clean and reflective of updates and refurbishments as well as them keeping quite a bit original from 1912. Very cool! Our room had everything we needed in our kitchen cabinets. Utensils, plates, microwave, mini fridge etc.The bathroom was very clean. We absolutely loved our little window nook! It has a cushion to sit on at the window and see the view of the gas lamp. The location was excellent we accessed several restaurants, clubs, and really anything you need within a short walk.Over all a great experience, we experienced no outside noise while we were here which had mixed reviews when we were searching for a place to stay. They even left a happy birthday print out note for my friend which I requested upon arrival! So so sweet, she loved it! Thank you!

The building is so beautiful and everyone we met was so nice (even when they were a little salty they were pretty funny). They were also very accommodating. I'm always freezing and they brought me a blanket. Sounds dumb but it was really appreciated. We had a view of the whole city from our room and even if you don't the rooftop view was amazing. They didn't have dining while we were there so we ordered in but it was still romantic. It's so close to every possible restaurant you could want.Side note, I left my prescription glasses behind and staff were so wonderful making sure I got them back to Washington!

At reservation time, requested a quiet room. When we got there, the lady at the window told me that I was eligible for an upgraded room (Monet Room, second floor). That's great! Uh?? Until it came to the evening when the club opened up and the room began to rattle from the bass. The room was lining the main street with only glass on the street side where the club is located. One can imagine what it was like. It was so loud ear plugs were in order. This went on until the late hours of the night......Just awful! I want to add that, at check-in, the lady was very manipulative steering us to using hotel services from the get go. I had to re-focus her on getting us checked in....The hotel itself is nice, but I would not stay there again....Live and learn...Upgrade??? No thank you!

Great hotel in the heart of the Historic Gaslamp District of San Diego, early American decor, friendly staff and Valet Parking Attendants. Expect noisy streets with live music venues and lots of people at night.... but this is what makes Gaslamp Suites a great location within walking distance or Trolley Ride to nice sights like Seaport Village, The Midway, and the Foot Ferry to Coronado Island. Definitely a nice little hotel in the Gaslamp.

Parking is valet for $38 or lot next door for $50/day, no ins-outs. This place is in the heart of the action, so expect party-city noises. They died down a little after midnight. Merry, at the front desk, was amazing. She was so funny and welcoming. You can tell she really enjoys her job. The corner suite was great. The views were nice and the room was spacious enough. We did have a few issues with the cables in the room but called down and was able to get someone to come up and fix it. The rooftop terrace was so nice. There is a small section to sit if the outside is too cold/windy. The downstairs bar was the best thing though. We had a great time drinking and taking in the atmosphere. Definitely a great stay and will be back.

I gave this place 3 stars even though I wouldve given them 2 but the noise outside and inside isn't really their fault...its location (busy late-night downtown area) and we had noisy ppl staying below us (front desk and security were super on top of that for us). A little too pricy for how small and outdated the room was & there's no pool, but again, location plays into.price. if you're into bars, clubs, comedy venues, restaurants, this location is perfect. Also, parking sucks. Find paid street parking or pay $38 for valet. I missed that part when I booked. Staff was great though!

I had to bring up my google account to leave a review for this place.. first of all the property is amazing as well as the customer service.. Pablo who was the Check-in in or night person went about and beyond, I was supposed to stay at the hotel across the street and my reservation got canceled.. so on a whim this was the best decision.. I had to go purchase a phone charger and the hotel even offered to have a security guard walk me there and back (Fernando) the customer service is on a different level.

I stayed at my girls room. I dont throw cigarette butts on streets and sometimes put it in my pocket. I emptied my pockets in the room and they claimed that we smoked. We didnt! The deposit was never returned. Straight up thieves!

Pros: Staff was professional and very helpful/efficient. Location is great and the price was reasonable. Room was clean and spacious for the money.Cons: Soundproofing between rooms is not great. I could hear music in the room next door from about 12:30 to 1:30 a.m. It wasn't extremely loud but was a constant background noise. Sheets are a little thin and room gets cold at night, so you may want to bring pajamas.

Pros of this hotel. 1, The staff was very friendly and welcoming! They even upgraded our room at no additional charge. 2, location. You are very close to restaurants and shopping.Cons, this one was a BIG one for me. Very very noisy! If you are coming to town to party then this is a great spot for you! If you are wanting more laid back, choose a different place! The other issue was parking. I understand that they do not have on site parking but after paying a premium for the hotel the least they could do was offer discounted parking. $35/night to park in a garage 2 blocks down was nuts... not to mention the garage has more “reserved” spots then open spots..All in all, I will choose somewhere else to stay next time we visit.

I used to love coming to the museum, even as a young adult. Today, my bf and I came for the planetarium in the dome and it was a great experience. The show was very informative and we left feeling very calm and relaxed. Would recommend the planetarium at least once. First Wednesday of every month with varying topics. Can take a peek through a telescope out front.

I've yet to meet a person as welcoming and fun as Merry, who greeted me theatrically upon arrival and had several helpful suggestions. A friend in town who lives in the El Cortez hung out on the rooftop with me in the evening where we shared a 6-pack of local brews. He could not believe the view of the Gaslamp District we had from there. So conveniently located. And try a Bird scooter while you're there.

I'm very clean person and now that I have a baby I'm extra on that, so this place was okay not the best like how the reviews had it. The rooms can use a touch up. The only reason why I'm giving it 3 stars because it was close to restaurants. I really expected a little bit more but oh well.

The view may have been lovely out the 5th floor window, however, said windows were extremely dirty. The units that run the A/C are extremely loud as was the unit on the top of the building. The space was comfortable and the view quite nice but the noise level high..All Housekeeping employees were attentive and thorough. The check-in personnel were helpful and kind. I appreciated that being I'm considered in the above young age bracket.San Diego also needs to clean up their streets and sidewalks downtown. I must complement Cafe 21 on 5th St. for the effort they put in to make the street and sidewalk outside there establishment clean and inviting. I did not feel comfortable walking in the evening.

I am a loyal member of another hotel chain. But my man planned our whole trip, including the hotel we were gonna stay in. I was skeptical at first but I was pleasantly surprised! The hotel is right in the middle of San Diego’s Gaslamp District. We were walking distance from everything. We absolutely loved Merry! She had so much energy. She was dancing while talking to us. Had so much life and soo welcoming!! The room itself is so clean! We had a junior suite with spectacular views. The windows are almost floor to ceiling and we kept all the blinds and shades opened the entire time. It was beautiful waking up to so much sun. The feel of the hotel is historic and you can tell they renovated and took great care. The rooftop is such a plus!! We went up there and just sat on the outdoor couch, overlooking the city and under the stars. I would definitely recommend and for sure coming back!!

Beautiful historical building. Neat to see how they kept it so old fashioned yet added the modern touches to keep up with the times. Not to mention the beautiful rooftop view 10 stories high showing off a beautiful view of the San Diego skyline. I would recommend it.

this hotel is in a great location. Close to a lot of restaurants. the room was clean and the staff was very nice. I want to give a shout to Merry, she has great energy. I love it!! She recommended great places to eat. What I really liked about this hotel, is that it was about 15 minutes from mission beach, a few minutes from balboa park, great location and the rooftop was awesome. My husband and I really enjoyed ourselves up there. The only downside is the parking however it is what is.

Tons of old vintage decor! Everything was well kept up, clean rooms, friendly staff (except for the night auditor, he was rude) rooftop was nice and clean. Employees are constantly cleaning and sanitizing, making sure guest wear mask! They're taking all necessary precautions with covid. Pillows were fluffy, bed sucked. The description say queen size beds, and it definitely wasn't. Room was an ok size.. a little small.. pictures definitely do no justice. The area was sketchy as hell. Bums sleeping on the bench In front, our view out the window one day was a guy passed out. Another bum tied a mask to our truck. The parking lot reeks of piss, not a safe feeling at night what so ever! Definitely not worth the price we paid. Way over priced.

Very convenient spot to all the activities in town. Also easily to hear the noises from street late night, especially weekends. Friendly services from staff. Room is a bit smaller although we were upgraded. Overall a good place to stay.

Lovely little hotel, I enjoyed the vintage touches that were preserved, like the letter slots in the doors. Well kept up with a comfortable bed. My one beef is just that there’s not much sound protection from the bars and clubs outside. But maybe higher floors aren’t as bad (I was on 7).

Decent choice for a Gaslamp area hotel. It's a cool historic building that housed business offices for about a hundred years. The hallways still have the feel of a film noire office building filled with detectives! Some rooms have little kitchenettes and the staff is very friendly. Can be noisy at night however, especially during weekends.

Very warm welcome on our arrival. The room was spot on and bed very comfortable. Breakfast on the rooftop was a nice touch but the breakfast was very basic which is a shame as a few more options would have been nice ...The location is great with many dining and drinking options. Plus about 20 minutes to the USS Midway. Overall a really good stay and would return.
