We got there a few hours early, and the staff was willing to hold our bags until check-in. Every time we would have to go to the desk, the staff was kind and accommodating. Great stay and spotlessly clean room, we stayed 4 days while attending a family function and Kings Inn SD will be a go... to location for future trips. Staff was friendly and helpful, restaurant has amazing waffles and the rooms are spacious and clean. Location is an easy commute to nearly anywhere in San Diego. My only possible downside would be to say bring your own pillow if you don't care for extra firm ones, but the bed itself was great ! 5 star stay for sure.read more

We stayed one for one night to see some friends, get a tattoo, and bar hop. It was such a central location to many... places. The liquor store and waffle house are walking distance which was great. The room was clean, no bed bugs/roaches. There's a mini fridge in the room. The staff were welcoming and kind. The premises were clean and well kept. We had a lovely time staying here. Pretty good hotel, especially if you're on a budget. The room smelled and felt very clean. They have hard wood floors... vs the typical carpet, which is better for me.Very unique hotel in a way and I enjoyed the little mascots outside that they had. Very family friendly and safe. The staff really do seem to care for everyone and all here 👍. Favorite hidden gem in SD. Checked in super late and was greeted with A+ service and info of the hotel. Room is clean... and other occupants were very respectful in late hours. Bed is fine but for sure bring your own pillow. My skin is sensitive to hotel sheets usually but I had no itching the next day. Most importantly NO BED BUGS or bites on my body.Loved the mini fridge that was super cold already. People were always enjoying the pool every time I went outside. Lot is safe and secure. Got to enjoy the waffle spot diner with a yummy cheese omelet and Fantastic iced coffee. Missed out on trying the Mexican restaurant. I’ve stayed at expensive hotels downtown and this place beats in almost every aspect. Will be my forever go to place to stay in SD.read more

Such a charming, authentically retro hotel. The rooms were spotless and well-designed, plus very quiet. The outdoor... pool and hot tub were surrounded by beautiful landscaping. The entire hotel is perfectly maintained. Seriously. I didn’t see peeling paint, loose hardware, moldy caulk, stained carpet, etc., ANYWHERE on the property. Considering that the hotel dates to 1959, this is amazing. I felt like we were living in the Mad Men era. We never made it to the Amigo Spot restaurant, but the Waffle restaurant was great. We ate there twice, both meals were delicious, amazingly quick to come from the kitchen, and our servers accommodated our party of six with kids professionally and were very friendly. On the outside, the hotel looked fun and very welcoming!The room was clean and made up daily. The bed was really... comfortable, and an effective air-conditioning meant that the temperature was always right.The bathroom was clean, and hot water came on very quickly. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were also provided, so there is no need to fret if you ran low.There was wireless Internet access as well, so if your data ran low, or if you just want to supplement your own data plan, that was a pretty decent backup.Overall, I have no complaints about the room. The hotel was quiet, smoke-free (we had a non-smoking room, but didn't smell any hint of smoke anywhere), and very clean. Definitely a recommendation for this hotel!read more

This is everything you'd expect a 2 star hotel would be. Firm spring mattresses, very light blankets, a heater set to... 72 that you cannot change.Although the staff was very nice, and the dinner restaurant had great food I would not stay here again.The walls are paper thin. You could hear your neighbor flushing the toilet and washing their hands. I was on the main level and you could hear kids playing in the pool. Doors slamming shut. Street noise. This motel is a hidden gem. I chose it for a trip for a Girl's weekend.First, the retro-decor is fabulous. It is a... slice of Americana and road trips of days gone by. It is in a great location. Easy to get to the Zoo, Sea World, Birch Aquarium and Downtown.Next, the room was clean and roomy enough for the three of us gals. The maid service was great. The room was cleaned daily. The maids were friendly and helpful when had questions or needed an extra hand towel or whatever.Additionally, having two restaurants on the property was a nice convenience. The Waffle Spot was awesome. I highly recommend the Churro waffle. (the double chip and banana walnut also get a thumbs up from our group)Finally, I'd like to give a special shout out to the front desk. We were there during the heavy rains the first week in February and they were helpful with suggestions for rainy day activities. More importantly, the were friendly and seemed to enjoy both their job and their guests I'm looking at you Vero and Ryan.I suspect some would prefer a more modern hotel, but for me and my girlfriend's this hidden treasure was a breath of fresh air where customer service was a priority and we were treated like royaltyThank you Kings Inn for helping to make our friend getaway one for the books!read more

If you're looking for a clean place that's affordable, this fits the bill. However, there is not much noise control. We could easily hear people walking in the room above us and outside. The water is very loud when a shower or toilet is used. I know sometimes you just end up with noisy neighbors, but this was beyond that. My other complaint is that the bed is extremely hard. Most hotels have beds too hard for me, but this one was like sleeping on plywood. Overall, this place is clean and affordable with a good location, but be prepared for some noise and a very firm bed.read more

We transferred from the motel 6 across the street and it was worth every penny. Service is wonderful and everything is... kept clean. The... location is really good, given there is a store and two restaurants inside of it, but there are also restaurants, convenience stores, and a liquor store nearby for those who drink. We really liked this place. The location was close to several of the nearby San Diego attractions. The rooms were fresh... and renovated and the adjacent restaurants that were on the hotel property served good food. The pool was heated and 9 feet deep. I think overall we enjoyed our stay here. The rooms were very clean and the representatives from the front desk were... very nice, they even put us close to the pool. The beds were a little too hard for me but comfortable enough. The beds could definitely use a pillow top! The location was outstanding as well as the hotel service. However, on today, the hour I’m due to check out, I decided to cut my facial hair for the flight so I put a towel down to avoid housekeeping from having to clean up behind me. Picking up hair amongst other things is a rather tedious job so I wanted to make sure that when I leave any hotel room that housekeepers are left with the absolute minimal to clean. I cut my hair and took the towel out to the parking lot right below my room to shake it out then brought the towel back to my room, all on camera. Unfortunately, a housekeeping supervisor came 5 minutes behind me to my room and questioned if I brought the towel back. It’s all on camera. I showed her the towel and communicated to her why I took the towel to the parking lot and brought it back. These aren’t Ritz Carlton towels, these are the same towels all other guests have used for the pool, a pool I didn’t use at all. This left a bad taste in my mouth with Kings Inn. Macarena, was the housekeeping supervisor that confronted me. I’m military so you already know that this will be communicated to my military comrades and to google reviews.read more

I’ll talk about my overall experience and the good and bad. Overall, the room was great for the price but the thin... walls make it impossible to sleep and even relax and because of that I won’t see myself coming back. The room had plenty of amenities but a lot of them had issues. There was a fridge but it wasn’t cold. The shower pressure was low but the temperature was good. Just small inconsistencies but the room was usable. All the staff was friendly and helpful.If your a light sleeper, the cheaper rate isn’t worth the sleepless nights of hearing people walking down halls and having conversations in the room next to you.read more

We liked supporting this hotel as a family-owned establishment. Good for the price (use discount code online if there... is one). Nice to have a few restaurants attached and the Waffle Spot was enjoyable and well priced with friendly service. Loved the fridge in our room, complete with freezer. Liked being able to park really close to our car (not the case in so many hotels). Good central location close to Mission Bay, Mission Beach, Old Town, downtown, and everywhere, really.A few things kept it from being a first-class experience. Floors in room did not seem clean. Went to the pool and hot tub once and, while nice and fun, seemed to have a lot of bugs and other floaties. Room had a few bugs as well. Exiting the room went walking through the poolside lounge area full of cigarette smoke right outside the room. Worst of all, room was oh so loud. From the room we could hear the conversations from the adjoining room (I bet they could definitely hear our kids in the morning too!), as well as trucks zooming down the highway, and loud footsteps from neighbors above. Sometimes all three at once - not a great place for light sleepers.Other than that, good for the price, if you're looking for a 'classier' motel experience that the family will enjoy. Would stay again if San Diego hotel prices stay sky-high everywhere else.read more

Booked the king suit through priceline for 2 nights. The room and linens were clean. Carpet felt a little damp though,... but the room was also 62 degrees when we got in🥶 check in was easy, but they had a sign up for a parking fee, $15 a night which is kind of outrageous and no free breakfast. Although you do get a 10% discount at whatever breakfast place they have there. The room had paper thin walls too, I could hear the next-door neighbor whenever they showered or flushed the toilet. And the house keeping cart rolling by at 8am sounds like a whole airplane flying over so if you're a light sleeper, I don't recommended staying here. Wouldn't stay again.read more

You pay what you get but my stay was memorable. Very clean. Although one cleaning lady did not like that i asked for... more towels. They prohibit taking towels off the hotel premises(to the beach). Although its very simple, the place was quiet. I like how i can park right in front of our room (loading and unloading made it easy). Parking is not free though! We asked for a crib for my infant (looks antique and never seen like quiet like that before) and it was delivered right away when we asked for it. There is a waffle place which is attached to the hotel. Affordable and delicious. We also used the pool but not the jacuzzi. Overall i will rate it pretty good. Thank you!read more

I brought 2 wet swiffer pads to wipe the floor down so we could walk without our shoes. I should have brought the whole... tub. It was that filthy. If your pillow drops on the ground don’t bother to pick it up because it’s that gross. I highly suggest for you to bring your own cleaning supplies to wipe everything down. Other then that the service was good. I really enjoyed having the restaurants within the same premises. We were able to find parking near our room whenever we came back from our excursions. It was nice to have a washer and dryer facility. My only wish is that they extended the hours. Will we be coming back? Maybe if we are on a tight budget.read more

If you're like me you're probably wondering how this inexpensive motel has such good ratings... like something is fishy... they're all too good...I stayed here for 1 week in the beginning of February 2023, and can reconfirm the positive reviews.Staff was friendly, rooms were clean, and the price was great. My only real complaint is the thin walls, you can hear every footstep above you, and listen to the TV next door. The breakfast was good, but I'd suggest going only once in your stay.The beds were comfortable, the room provided a safe place to sleep, shower, and keep our stuff. We only really used the room as a place to crash every night after spending the day exploring sunny southern California.Additionally the parking fee ($15/night) is far cheaper than the surrounding hotels.I would HIGHLY recommend staying at the Kings Inn, if you're visiting San Diego on a budget.read more

I enjoyed my stay at the Kings Inn! I was there for 3 nights for a nearby conference. The bed was comfortable, and the... room was generally clean. The carpet in my room was... a little sticky. I always wear shoes in hotels, because carpets are gross if you think about them too hard, so the sticky carpet wasn't really a problem for me. But it might be for someone else. My only other complaint is that the shower curtain was fabric (no plastic), so water leaked out onto the bathroom floor every time I showered. My bathmat was soaked throughout my stay. That being said, I had a good experience overall. It is not a fancy hotel, and the lobby decor is definitely a blast from the past, but it had everything I needed. I ate at both the Waffle Spot and the Mexican restaurant, and the food was good at both places. The hotel lobby also has a small convenience store section with basic necessities, drinks, and snacks/ramen.If you are attending a conference in one of the nearby but more expensive hotels on Hotel Circle, it is walkable to several of those. There is a sidewalk that runs down that street and under the highway. There is also a liquor store and a couple of American-style restaurants within easy walking distance.read more

We had a great stay here! It's not a new hotel, but it's been well taken care of. The room was clean, the shower had... great water pressure, and the staff were all friendly and helpful. We didn't use the pool, but the grounds in general were clean and well-maintained. Both restaurants were great, particularly the waffles. There's parking on site ($15 a day) and it's close to most of what we wanted to see in San Diego, including the zoo, several beaches, and lots of great food. I only wish it... was shampoo and conditioner seperately not in one bottle but that was easily handled. The room had 2 windows. So nice breeze in my room.The TV was good sized, the bed was so comfy. There was a nice sitting areas by the pool and spa. THE parking was huge so no worries of not getting a space if you came in late. I felt very safe and comfortable being by myself. Oh the hotel had towels for the pool to use. I was referred to this hotel by 2 of my co workers and I am so glad. It was easy to find and so close to Old Town . Next time I get the opportunity to come to San Diego I will look up Kings Inn.read more

I'm truly astounded at how nice this Inn was. The rooms were immaculate, clean, and comfortable. The king bed and... pillows were great after a long day. The swimming pool and hot tub were also very clean and refreshing. The Waffle Spot is an absolutely fantastic restaurant (5/5), definitely check that out for breakfast or brunch. The service was very nice, with kind staff and thorough cleaning staff who made our bed, replaced the towels, and took out the trash every day. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and I'm glad I found it.read more

At the end of our nearly week long stay, asked if they could hold our suitcase because we flew out later that day. We ubered around the city so didn’t have anywhere to put it and they flat out refused. The Marriott up the street actually offered to keep it for us after explaining the situation and we didn’t even stay there. Seems like a basic hotel function for guests.read more

We were in a King Bedroom Superior room. We appreciated the sitting area with a sofa and coffee table, along with the... fridge, microwave, cupboards, and sink. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom sink was new, and there was a separate walk in closet with a door, dresser, and mirror that could be used when someone else was in the bathroom. We also liked that we had our own room thermostat to control the temperature. It was an actual heating/cooling system rather than the loud units by the windows that so many hotels have. We enjoyed relaxing in our room at the end of each day of our visit to San Diego! Would highly recommend the Kings Inn!read more

Update: Stayed here for the second time and had a better experience than the first!!!This is a cool, vintage motel... that has added some modern touches. It is well maintained even though it is older. For both of my stays, the rooms were exceptionally clean, beds were comfortable, and I was able to park very close to my room. Also this recent time, I enjoyed the hot tub every night!! Such a relaxing addition to my stay. I’ll definitely be back!My only con is that both times I unfortunately encountered people smoking and the smell wafted into my open room window or the hot tub area. It was not continuous though.This hotel is cheaper than all the other hotels in the area, so the price makes it worth staying here.read more

You have to stay here! I chose this location as it has cheap prices and I had stayed at the Kings Inn in Anaheim... before and was very pleased with that location. The outside doesn’t look like much at all but the rooms are very nice and comfortable. I believe I got a bit of an older room as it was different than some of the pictures online but I know they were renovating some rooms beside mine so I think it’s just a matter of time before all of them are more up to date. Even with a bit of an older room though I had no complaints! I unfortunately had some problems arise during my trip so I had to extend my booking a couple times. The front office was AMAZING, I cannot remember her name but I believe she is the day manager. She was unbelievable, she helped me out with any questions and offered her services if I needed anything at all. She made me feel so at ease during a stressful time and she really went above and beyond. The pool is nice and big and has a nice hot tub as well. They have a restaurant on site and I tried the Waffle House which is what they serve during the morning/afternoon and it was very good. This is in a great location and I found it was close to a lot of stuff especially if you have a car. For the price you cannot go wrong with this location and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in San Diego.read more

This place is absolutely the best. My parents and I have had to travel to the area multiple times in the few months do... to my father having appointments at the Moores Cancer center. Each time we have stayed here the staff has been amazing and accommodating. I always ask to have the rooms on the ground floor and next to each other since we get two room and it has never been a problem. The rooms here are always very clean and comfortable. Having a family member fighting cancer is stressful enough so knowing that this place is somewhere I can take my father and he will be comfortable is a blessing.read more

I will admit the outside of the hotel had us doubting our decision to book this hotel, but the actual room and service... changed our minds. They clean your room daily and provide you with fresh towels and whatever other amenities you might need. The room itself isn’t super fancy, but it’s clean and nicely decorated and it was spacious enough for the two of us. It was my first time traveling to San Diego and I found this hotel on bookings.com for a pretty good price... I loved... the vintage decor and how there is literally a restaurant right at the hotel that serves some bomb breakfast. The best part was how nice housekeeping was and how they always made sure our rooms looked nice and tidy. I really appreciate the housekeeping staff and overall hotel management. The clerks at the front desk were also very helpful in recommending us how to navigate our way through the hotel and onto our rooms. Overall 5/5 stars and definitely look forward to booking with them again soon!read more

This place is so cozy! This is definitely one of my favorite places to stay when I am looking for a place to get away... for the weekend. The rooms are spacious, very clean, well furnished, and fresh-smelling. I'm not sure if smoking-rooms are offered here, but the ones that are non-smoking are always fresh and smell so good. Also, their hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion is of quality and also smell so good. They have lots of parking up close to the rooms and many staircases that are fairly spaced throughout the property for easy access to the rooms. The pool is amazing in size, appearance, and cleanliness. It is lit in different colors that accentuate the palm trees and overall color scheme of the Inn. Housekeeping is friendly and respectful Linen and towels are of quality. The beds are made very well. They look perfectly made and super comfy as soon as you open the door to the rooms for the very first time. I love it here. Definitely recommend to everyone who is looking for an affordable, clean, and comfortable place to retreat for a day or five.read more

Everything was great until the housekeeping manager and assistant hotel manager made up bogus evidence in order to keep... my deposit which they have no right to do since I did nothing wrong, there was no smoking in the room and the fact that there was tobacco in the trash can means literally nothing. You can see both myself and my boyfriend walk outside there was a camera right outside the door. Anytime we wanted to smoke a cigarette. I didn't even hit a vape pen, light a match, candle, nothing. And I tried to talk to whoever inspected my room on multiple occasions only to be informed they weren't available and they could not provide me with any idea of when they would be available. Spend your money somewhere else where the staff doesn't make up lies to scam you out of your money.read more

Checking in and out was super simple and fast, we received an excellent rate due to buying the rooms up front and as a... nonrefundable transaction. I rate it at 3 stars because anytime I requested anything for the room such as plunger or towels or blankets it would be hours and sometimes nonexistent, we had to search for maintenance crews ourselves. The location however is phenomenal, its about 10-15minutes from just about anything you could want for food or fun shopping centers, and the road in front makes a great jog in the morning! Extremely pet friendly rooms, all tile flooring and a DEEP tub!Doggy bag stations across the property and some grassy patches made it easy as well. All in all no actual complaints, it was a very pleasant stay, and the people we talked to were all friendly.read more

The place was well kept. Our first room was promised to have a patio. As it turns out, NONE of their rooms have a... patio. While we were waiting for an answer, another guest (a complete stranger) entered our room with his own key. Needless to say, we were disturbed by this and were given an "upgraded" room. The second room was freshly painted, ground floor and had a new fridge plus a sitting corner. The guy working at the front desk was apologetic and kind. I seriously doubt we will go back. It wasn't horrible, but I would rather spend the same amount of money elsewhere for a more comfortable and place.read more

We stayed for three nights. There were pros and cons during our stay. The location is great close to everything. The... staff was very friendly and professional. The room itself was a little disappointing. The paint above the headboard was chipped in a few places which was noticible because it was an aqua color and white where the paint was chipped. The bathtub finish was chipped off and had rust stains, and the bathroom floor was dirty. Overall the room was clean, the linens were good, we had plenty of clean towels, and they offer maid service everyday if you want it. The grounds and pool area was clean and well kept. It was hard to find parking at night though. While the room was not fancy I felt it was a good value for what we paid.read more

Then we did some searching online and found Kings Inn at 12 midnight. Dwayne gave us a rate and told us to make it before 2am and that we could be checked in. This hotel exceeded all expectation. We love the vintage vibe. It was CLEAN for the most part. the bathroom curtains were a little dirty but the bed was clean. The provided 2 blankets, a table with chairs and lots of food options. Most places were closing their pools at 6pm/8pm etc.. And the zoo is about 4 miles or so. Another nice things is they strictly enforce the whole facility being non smoking. The room itself is modern, clean and nice! Would def come back again. CONS: Only downside would be no microwave in room. So if your trying to save a couple bucks, that may be a no go. Although not sure if it was just my room itself. Another downside was Roku was not setup and had to settle for cable channels. PRO: Room has a mini fridge.read more

Very pleased with my stay. My husband & I stayed here for 4 days in the king size bed room. The room was clean & the... employees provided excellent service. I found it odd that my room didn’t come with a microwave. I’m not sure if others do or not. That’s my only thing though, it just needed a microwave. Overall, I was very comfortable with this hotel. I also love how affordable it is. I will be returning again. 🙂read more

I picked this place for a family vacation based on photos and reviews. We pulled in and my husband was a bit skeptical... because it's not your standard Hilton or Best Western. We all fell in love with the place over the 6 days we stayed there and have agreed this is our go-to next time we stay in San Diego. The location is perfect, pool is great, rooms are clean and crisp, hospitality was very helpful and friendly. I have nothing bad to say about this hotel.read more

My rating is based on the category of lodging I would put this place in. That being said, this is a great mid-level... motel/hotel. If you want a rare 70s vibe with updated amenities then this place will make your dreams come true. There are 2 on site restaurants and a liquor/convenience store next door. The only one within at least a mile of the location (the store) is open till 2am daily. The price is usually the middle average compared to most of the places in the area. You'll have to do your research to decide what's worth it to you but this is definitely a suitable option for most people's needs. Free wifi that offers a decent connection. Parking can be sparse but it is free and available. Just know that you might not be so close to your room.read more

Honest friendliest staff at the front desk. I had left my wallet outside on the bench while eating at the restaurant.... The staff went out of their way to contact me by facebook and through my company credit card. I had cash inside all was returned. I offered a tip but they would not take it... We felt like a Royalty during our 30th Anniversary stay at the hotel. From the moment we arrived, we know exactly this... hotel was special. From the concierge that opened our taxi door through to the wonderful reception team. The bed is like sleeping on a cloud wish I could have taken it home with me! We had to travel to San Diego for a medical procedure at UCSD. Kings Inn is 5 minutes up the hill. Very reasonable... price, very clean rooms.Great staff. Only caveat is "large bodied" people will find the bathroom very small.read more

I loved this hotel. The old world charm with some contemporary flare! The waffle spot was right out of the 50’s/60’s... and the waffles, well they were awesome. The Amigo spot was also great, the chipotle wings were to die for and the margaritas were very tasty. All staff were friendly and welcoming. Last but not least, the pool was fabulous! Will go back again for sure🙂read more

Stayed here for approximately 2 to 3 months (work related). Management and the staff are nice, polite and attentive.... I mainly stayed in one room while I was there, but periodically had to move to a different room. The one room I stayed in was great. The other rooms were a bit small for me, but I was fine.The restaurants had good food and gave you large portions.All in all... I give The Kings Inn a 4.5 out of 5. There's always room for improvement, but are pretty damn close to perfection.Thanks!!!read more
