We enjoyed the kayak tour and snorkeling, but it could have been better. They called and asked to move our tour from 12 to 12:30, which was fine. We arrived at noon to check in, but no employee told us what we needed to do or where to go, or got us our equipment. Finally, at 12:35, I asked a girl coming back from break what we were supposed to do, and she told us to get our equipment. Elise was great and deserves a raise; she was very patient with the slower participants. Other than that, it was a good trip should tell the girl that checked us in she should be more concerned with the customer having a good experience not talking with the boy she was working with.
What an awesome experience. I have done kayaking in other places, but this was special. Angela and Levi were amazing guides, very knowledgeable with marine life and the surrounding landscape. They did their very best so we all could have that Instagram worthy picture from inside the cave. The price for the tour was very reasonable and the shop has everything you may need in case you forget something at home.
10/10 My experience here was so good, we went kayaking and toured the 7 caves. They had space for us although we booked last minute. Our tour guide Beth, was so funny and she made the whole thing so enjoyable. This was my first time kayaking and I would totally do it again, especially in the beautiful clear waters of La Jolla. It was also really cool that there were sea lions swimming a few feet away. We tried the 10 second standing challenge and some of us succeeded whereas others of us fell in. Beth helped us take videos and now we have something to look back on that makes us smile. Thank you for the great experience.
Great experience, great staff, beautiful views you will never forget. Prices were reasonable, and fairly similar to the other kayak rentals. Experience is NOT necessary the stretch of ocean they took us on is super calm. The your guide was nice, helpful , and informative. The only thing i didn't like was that you are given your life vest, a helmet and told to go down to the beach an find a "red shirt". Seeing as there are several other companies also doing tours at the same launch point, this method left us confused and worried we were going to miss our group. Do not underestimate how wet you will get. For some reason I didn't realize we were launching from shore, and while the waves are small and easy to get past, they will soak you on the way out. Once you get past the break your good to go. Overall though I would highly recommend, you will not regret it.
My family and I had the best experience with Bike and Kayak tours - La Jolla. The experience was worth the effort to kayak past the wake/wave zone and we felt equipped with the skills needed to safely kayak due to the experienced trainers providing the prebrief.
I went to a Snorkel and Kayak tour on a Sunday at 3.30PMLike other reviews mentioned, the store is a bit chaotic but just ask questions and the staff can helpThe tour itself accommodated all skill levels. I’m pretty fit but letting “slower” people catch up was a welcomed rest even for me.Our time of day didn’t result in any shark sightings (I had no other choice), but as an inexperienced snorkeler it was still fun to see different fishAnd our guide Tyler was great! By the end our group had a good camaraderie!
Had a great experience kayaking at the La Jolla caves. Natalie was a great guide and we had so much fun. We were able to see many garibaldi, about a dozen leopard sharks, and about 10 dolphins. Highly recommend and will likely be back in the future!
Super fun tour! Only warning is there are so many groups around from the same company, you have to pay close attention & listen up so you don’t miss your group & paddle out to the correct meet up spot. Elizabeth & Ava were our tour guides & they had tons of fun facts & stories that made the whole trip fun, interesting, & lively. They made sure we stopped to see leapord sharks & other wildlife spotted on the way. Highly recommend!
Good vibes and a great kayak tour! Staff was kind, professional, and in good spirits even though it was a busy summer weekend. Not too expensive, and everything was clean and organized. Anthony was an awesome guide, cracking jokes but also teaching us the science of our ecosystem. Really glad I took my family on this tour! Worth it.
Our family had a great time on the kayak and snorkeling tour! We rented 2 double kayaks for each adult and 2 kids (9) and (13) and we were easily able to manage them. The water was beautiful and we saw lots of wildlife! Even a sea turtle which they say is rare to see! Our guides Jada and Levi were great and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend this excursion!
This was really cool, it's better to go out in the morning when the water has a clear view. Our tour guide was Maddie, she informed us about some cool things about the coast and the waters there around. My only issue was that our tour was supposed to be 2.5 hours but we were only out there for an hour.
Our family adventure was great. The staff was wonderful from the moment we arrived. The two guys who took us on the tour were very attentive to everyone and took care of every detail. We felt safe. We will definitely be back soon. Thank you!
So i should say i give this a high star rating for overall but there were definitely some areas that need real improvement. I went with my older parents and i am middle age and we all enjoyed the experience a lot, it was fun, challenging at times, and we saw some very beautiful caves and sea animals. Instructors were overall very good, patient and very nice, but occasionally due to the size of the group it seemed a little chaotic and i could not always hear the instructions and once we were out of the cave there was a little time i was unsure where i should be waiting. We were also with some much less experienced kayakers and they were all over the place which made group ocean kayaking more challenging. It is also about a mile or so from beach to cave and for people with back issues it can be challenging back and forth. Also use strong sunscreen i looked a little like a lobster when i was done as did my family. Waterproof phone case also really came in handy for getting pictures.
My husband and I, and four kids have been enjoying the kayak and snorkeling tours at Bike and Kayak tours for years, since our kids were little tykes. The location is close to the beach and near local eateries. Extremely pleasant vacation ambiance. The store itself is AWESOME! It’s large and inviting, tons of cool merch, everything you need and didn’t think of/maybe forgot that you can use for beach life! The staff is plentiful and is as excited as we are - great personalities and very knowledgeable. Then, the tours. We have had a blast year after year on these tours. We love to visit San Diego at least once a year, and this has become a staple to our trips. Our kids, now in their early twenties/teens, would be very disappointed if we skipped this experience. The tour guides provide fun and interesting facts about the area and wildlife, and give instruction before and during the tours that applies to all ages, young and old. My kids love swimming/snorkeling and being up close and personal with the fish. ☺️ They are smiling from ear to ear from start to finish. All in all, we highly recommend Bike and Kayak tours for next-level San Diego fun in the sun!
AMAZING! This was such a fun tour. Anthony and Nat made it even better by keeping things interesting with all their local knowledge. Never felt unsafe. We saw SO many sea lions and the cave experience was pretty cool.
We booked a kayak tour to La Jolla Cove to see the sea lions and go inside the cave. The whole staff was very friendly and helpful and their prices were good too. It was a super cool family experience. Our tour guide was Charlie, he was knowledgeable and fun. Do not look any further, book with them and get ready to get wet ?
Great experience! We got to explore caves filled with sea lions. The guides are fun and helpful people. Our guides Caroline and Lane were great to interact with.
Great views and time out on the water. Tour guides were fantastic and helpful. The kayak traffic among the several companies out on the water was a bummer, delayed our return. Seeing the sea lions was so cool!
Maddison was an amazing tour guide. This was one of my very favorite activities in San Diego. We were nervous but there was no reason to be. One of the highlights was having many leopard sharks pass us under the kayaks. The water was so clear and paddling wasn’t hard at all. Book this asap! You won’t regret it.
Awesome cave tour, be ready for some upper body strength. Be prepared YOU WILL GET WET!!! Came back in on the waves, everyone has been flipping over, feels like a roller coaster. For $70 double seater, a couple hours is definitely not bad at all. I will personally be coming back with Jonathan our host
We did the 12:00 snorkeling and kayaking. The guide was nice enough. But they really didn’t seem to pay attention to the people in the group. At one point I lost sight of my son. I was calling his name several times. Guide never even looked my direction. Or asked what was wrong. Another older women spent a good 10 min trying to get back into the kayak. So if you’re overweight and can’t lift your self soaking wet out of the water I wouldn’t recommend this tour. About 3 of us worked together and dragged her back in. The guides didn’t notice or offer to help the entire time. The water was too murky to see anything and the waves were too rough to look at the caves. So sadly it was kind of a waste of money. I realize the weather is not controllable. But for safety reasons the guides should be more aware of what is going on in their party.
We booked the kayak tour during our short weekend in San Diego because me and my fiancé love to kayak. I’m giving 3 stars because we did kayak, and our guides were decent, but a lot of things could be improved.Firstly, their shop & getting ready area is filthy. We did the 11:30 tour, so maybe if you go earlier it’d be cleaner, but there is sand and water everywhere, and it smells foul. Don’t get me wrong, I get owning a kayak tour company means sand and water is part of the job, but any respectable business owner or employee would look at the mess in their shop and try to make it more presentable. Not to mention there is really no where to put your stuff while you’re are trying to get prepared for the tour besides the changing room or bathrooms - both equally gross. Also, upon reflection this business is what I would call a tour “mill” : only employs unserious college students as guides, packs in as many tour groups as possible back to back causing rushing, and their gear especially their paddles are used and abused and not in great condition. Finally, while I appreciated our actual tour guide, when coming in they are supposed to help you “kayak surf” onto shore using other guides stationed at the beach. Well, the person supposed to bring me in wasn’t prepared, fell, and didn’t get to me in time causing me to capsize and get soaking wet (ruining my later day plans). While I get mistakes or accidents happen, the fact this person told me afterwards “sorry about that, I’m the worst one at this” wasn’t exactly comforting (why let someone have the responsibility if they aren’t good at it?).Overall, I judge my review and businesses based on if I’d go back & if I’d recommend it to others, and in this case I’d do neither. It’s a very basic, run of the mill kayaking tour and I feel you could find more value elsewhere.
The staff was really nice and the area was beautiful, but I STRONGLY recommend only going if there’s minimal waves and clear tide. Unfortunately when we went, it was red tide (even the guide said the water was gross), so we couldn’t see ANYTHING except seaweed in the water and the waves were so big we couldn’t even get close to the caves. I wish they would’ve at least offered us to reschedule or a refund because it wasn’t at all what we expected for the price.
My family had a GREAT time! Saw sharks, sea lions, pelicans, and lots of other fish! Tyler expertly guided us through one of the sea caves and taught us about everything we saw. So exciting!
What a great experience today with Ruby and Koya! They were professional, knowledgeable and made us feel very safe. The weather we ordered was also perfect ?. We booked the 1030am outing which was great because the morning overcast went away by the time we went out on the water. We spent almost 2 hrs on the water and saw sharks, manta rays, (super loud) sea lions, and lots of pelicans. We had an amazing time on our girls trip adventure!
Had a fun time on my Kayak tour! The guides were great. Kept us safe, challenged & educated us, and created positive & fun energy for our group. Highly recommend ?
Super company. Had a group of 7 youngest was 77-81 and they had their hands full helping us. Very patient and caring. We had 4 out of 7 flip over coming to shore. Thank you so much. You filled another bucket list to do’s. Highly recommend this company. Super helpful and friendly.
The staff and guides were super friendly and informative! We got plenty of time in the kayaks, but the waves did not allow us to actually go into the caves and the water was too murky to see anything but shapes and shadows. We did see lots of leopard sharks, but again, they were mostly shapes moving through the water. The guides did give us a great idea for touring the Oyster Aquafarm in Carlsbad, which we did the next day. Thanks!!
Last minute decision to go kayaking with my cousins who were visiting from Jersey. We had brunch at the Shore Rider next door and this was so convenient. We didn’t get a tour because the tides were high and can’t go inside the caves anyway. Staff was swift and friendly and because we were the last ones of the day, they even extended a 25% discount. Process was smooth and a great way to see the caves and La Jolla shores from an oceanic vantage point!
Vanessa was so much fun and a great guide for our kayak tour! We loved listening to her stories and had some sea lions surprise us by hunting about 20 ft away! Also, we wouldn’t have wanted to wipe out in front of anyone else 🙂
I did the 0900 kayaking tour today. It was amazing! Thankfully the tides worked out and we were able to go into one of the caves! Our guide Ciaran was great! He was very knowledgeable, personable, and he made sure that everyone knew what they were supposed to do and when. All in all it was a great experience and I highly recommend their kayak tour. This was my first time kayaking in San Diego and the first time that I had to accommodate waves (they were little) while getting out to the ocean. All the staff were great throughout this whole experience. Thank you! I will def be coming back for more adventures!!
I absolutely loved the tour and the staff were amazing on the water very observant with the waves coming making sure we don’t end up in a bad spot. I really loved it, I recommend everyone going! P.s you can always see dolphins if you’re lucky!
We had an excellent time. I have lived in San Diego since 2015 and have always wanted to do a Kayak tour . This was my birthday weekend and my son and girlfriend came in from Tucson and we booked a tour! It truly was a great time. The staff was very welcoming from door to water! Also very knowledgeable of the area. Definitely recommend this place for others to book tours .
Had such a great time!I’ve been kayaking before but not in the open ocean. While we weren’t able to enter the caves because of the waves, our guide Vanessa still made the experience incredibly entertaining. Vanessa was able to provide interesting history and educate us about the habitats and animals that lived there. I definitely would return to explore the caves in another season and even try out the snorkeling tours. Thanks Vanessa+team!
We really liked Vanessa, our guide. She told great stories about the caves, spoke loud enough for us all to hear, and was the one who jumped in to help people get back on their kayak after their swim. Kudos to her and the company. I’m glad it was sunny and warm when we went in November.
It was a nice experience. Our instructors were Venessa and Tyler. They were informative and explained about history of caves and other things like seal, otter, and other animals. We were able to spot leopard sharks, fishes, sea lions and couple other animals. No dolphins unfortunately, but overall experience was nice. Tyler was informative but did not wait for other kayaks and mostly stayed ahead of everyone which was bit annoying. He should help out others who are slow in kayak too. Venessa on the other hand was more helpful in that way, but no other complains as such.
I was there with my 2 girls. I had called other places and was told I couldn’t do a triple kayak. But not here they didn’t turn us away and we are very grateful! We had the best time, James and Mike were very informative and also funny. I think my favorite part was that while other tours just sent their group into the cave James and Mike swam us in. My girls were nervous about going in and probably wouldn’t have if we had to do it without any guidance. Great experience!!
We did ne Kayak Cave Tour. It was really nice. Our tourguide was Mike. He did a really great job. We weren‘t able to go into the caves because of the low sea level but it was still awesome. We saw the caves from the outside and heard a lot of interesting stuff.
Our kayak guide, Michael, was super helpful and had a lot of cool information to share about the area and the ecosystem. We had a lot of fun kayaking to the caves. With the larger waves, Michael made sure to help us navigate them and stay safe. My husband and I had a lot of fun!The area of Bike and Kayak Tours is also super convenient. There are lots of other shops and eateries right by it with easy access to the beach. After kayaking, we went to House of Pizza just down the street from Bike and Kayak Tours, and it was the best pizza I think I’ve ever had. Their toppings are pretty unique, but their flavors are so well balanced that it works! It was satisfying after spending energy kayaking!
So glad we picked this tour of La Jolla Caves! Everyone was so friendly at check-in. I kayaked a few times, never in the ocean. We were lucky to have James was our tour guide. He went over safety stuff first which was helpful and then from there made sure we had a good time. Told all all about the area and caves. He was terrific! Highly recommend this tour
We had a great tour, we went up to several caves and into one for a bit. Our guides were very fun, had a lot of knowledge and worked with each person to make it a great experience. We had a small group so we were quick around the caves so we went back and found some good spots to enjoy the water even more. We would definitely go again and highly recommend Bike and Kayak Tours. There are three of the same businesses in close proximity. Very glad we picked this company, they were super friendly and made the time wonderful.
What an EXPERIENCE! We did the Kayak and Snorkeling tour. Our guide from Coastal Carolina (Kalen) was AMAZING! He should be given a raise! Super chill, professional, and always willing to share his knowledge. All of the staff were very professional and helpful. The kayaking was definitely the hardest part of the tour, but nothing crazy. Our guide allowed patrons to go at their own pace. The water is very buoyant, so less experienced swimmers shouldn't be too concerned. There could be difficulty for some getting back into the kayak after the snorkeling is completed but the guide and other patrons will try to assist wherever they can.The water was FRIGID. We had wet suits and they were definitely needed. It was nice that this tour included the wet suits at no additional costs. Snorkeling inside the caves makes it even colder, but definitely worth the coldness. The water is somewhat murky, and the sea floor drops quickly from the cliff's edge. Don't be expecting Bahama-type snorkeling. We saw tons of seals, but unfortunately none of them swam close to us while we were in the water.Your trip to San Diego isn't complete without taking this tour!
The tour was a great experience especially for my family who are visiting. Informative tour guides. We just didn't really had the chance to explore the other caves area on our own even for just a little time. Would've really appreciate if they had given us even for like 10-15mins to kayak around without following the group. Overall experience was fun though.
We had a great time! The staff was very friendly from check in to check out. Our instructors Georgia and Izzy were, fun, super nice and knowledgeable. My husband and I went with our 4 kids ranging in ages 6-15 and we did the double kayaks. We all loved it. We seen lots of sea lions and garibaldi. The caves were beautiful and the water temperature was perfect. Only bad part was finding a parking spot.
Our guides were wonderful!! Mason gave great info but was also fun about it ?. This was the first time kayaking in the ocean for my son and daughter-in-love. She was pretty nervous at first but by the end, we all had the hang of it and enjoyed ourselves!! Great memories!!
Nathan and Alise were fantastic guides watching and educating us along the way. Love this book experience, it was on my bucket list. Saw lots of wild life, double dolphin’s, sea lions, pelicans, diving birds relative of penguins, went into a cave, so very quiet and peaceful. AMAZING ACTIVITY TO DO ! Love this tour❤️Now all my friends and family want to do it after Showed them my photos so also bought the Rip Curl water proof bag at shop to keep my phone safe . So glad i did because we tipped over on the way back in. It was the most fun ?- Exhilarating with lots of laughter at the end making it for a splendid day .
Area was nice to kayak- pretty scenery and lots of sea lions. The changing area and bathrooms were very dirty and looks like they had not been swept in quite some time. The staff was friendly and helpful. However 50.00 for just a rental seems a little high. I did not do a tour. The walk to the beach where you put in is about 2 blocks so pretty close.
We did the kayak tour of the caves at 9am on a weekday. The water was very calm, and the views were great. There was a decent amount of other kayak groups on the water. The guides, Caroline and Mason, were awesome as well. All in all, a great experience!
This was a wonderful time, and everyone was so professional. The scheduling process was so easy and confirmation were quick. The online check in made it simple and time saving so we could enjoy breakfast at brick and bell. We had a kayak change request which was no problem. We had M & M for tour guides who was a blast and very accommodating to all guest. This will definitely be a place to come back to and recommend
Cecilia was our guide and she was the best. I felt safe under her guidance which was extremely reassuring as a mother out with her teenage daughter. The ocean can be extremely unpredictable so having someone aware and prepared to was essential.Cecilia also provided us with a wealth of knowledge about the area and all the ecosystems we explored. We truly enjoyed our experience. Thank you C! ??
I’ve lived in San Diego for 8 years and did this tour for the first time last week when family came to visit. I had a blast. Cecilia and Macie were the guides. They were exceptional. Full of fun and interesting facts, concise and clear cut with directions and expectations, and very easy going with great senses of humor. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting SD, or to locals who have never kayaked the caves before. Great way to spend the afternoon. Thanks again Cecilia and Macie. 🙂
Our experience was amazing! I am hardly a good driver on the road and have no experience on a boat and I was able to maneuver it with their guidance and pick up to full speed! It was soooo fun and liberating. The staff is very kind, patient, and down to earth. It was all better than expected!
Check-in was quick and easy. We were directed to the beach in our gear and told to find staff in the red shirts. We had to stand by for over 30 minutes past our scheduled time before anyone directed us where to go and what to do. Our guide was Hannah and she was amazing! She completely made up for the delay. She was very friendly, insightful, and funny! You only get to go in 1 cave, but it was worth the price. We did the 3:30/4:00 pm 7 caves tour and there were a lot of kayakers in the water at that time. It was a challenge paddling around all the groups of people. The views were nice. We got to see a baby seal in the cave. I'm a newbie to kayaking and the distance we had to paddled seemed pretty far to me, but do-able. Overall, I had a wonderful experience and I would do it again!
Felt very comfortable and was instructed well enough to feel like a pro during my first kayak tour. Kai was a great guide and was super informative on our surroundings and history with a great attitude. He’s got jokes. I’ll definitely recommend this spot for any friends visiting.
Amazing/beautiful experience! Ollie was an excellent/entertaining guide! And Sam was a champion helping the whole group get off the beach and also getting us back in without tipping overboard in the waves!Water was pretty rough and waves were crashing pretty hard against the rocks so we didn’t get too close to the caves (sadly), but we still loved the experience! Got to see so many beautiful things, wildlife, birds, seals, sea lions, and ride some awesome huge waves! One of a kind experience! 100% recommended!
This is a fun, informative and charismatic group to explore the caves with! We were on holiday and decided to book the caves tour. Our guide was great. Not only did we feel safe and fully prepared, but we learned a few kayak tricks along the way. The caves are full of history and we learned many facts about the California shoreline. We were able to enter one of the caves and actually saw a sea lion resting on a ledge as we entered! We were able to see orange fish on the floor of the ocean and even spotted a moon jellyfish next to our kayaks. A wonderful experience with a nice group of experts. Highly recommend.
We had a great tour on Friday! We did the 10:30am with Z and Chelsea. They were funny, informative, and made the trip safe for all of us! Highly recommend. They were very organized as well. Make sure you tip both of your guides! They work very hard to make sure your tour is safe and enjoyable!
I had been wanting to do a kayak thing for years and I’m so glad I did it! Our tour guides were Tyler and Megan and they ensured we all had a great time while throwing some jokes to us. I would definitely recommend this place. I did the 9am tour and it was the perfect whether conditions. It was calm enough on the ocean to where we got to go in one of the caves. Really awesome experience. 10/10 the best. We also got the chance to see some sea lions and seals too!
Had an awesome experience with the 90 min kayak tour to the caves. Our guide Ana was very nice, funny, and knowledgeable about the history of the area and the sea life. Our group was small so it almost felt like a private tour; we saw lots of fish and the large cave. 100% recommend!
Jack and Lina were our tour instructors for kayaking and snorkeling. Thank you both for all you do and have to put up with. I can't say I had the best snorkeling experience! I believe it was more so due to the group I was with. A lot happened as it does at times. I only saw a few yellow fish and we didn't explore the cave. No one helped us back on to the shore. Lina the instructor told us to paddle towards the red shirts in which we did. While following instructions by Lina 'leaning back' I did just that. The waves were coming in as they do along the beach shore where the kayak returned! Well as I was waiting in confusion for one of the red shirts people to bring me in, my kayak topsided and so did I ??♀️?.
We had an awesome experience on the kayak tour. Our guides, Morgan and Alex were absolutely wonderful. They were very knowledgeable about the ecosystems and very attentive to everyone in our group. We were a little nervous because we did not have a lot of experience with kayaking but we felt very safe. Going inside the cave was amazing! Definitely worth it!
My family and I did a kayak and snorkeling trip. Our tour group had beginners and experienced paddlers and snorkelers. The staff did a great job of providing instructions. Waves by the see sea caves were quite rough so we moved to an alternative snorkeling location. We were able to see many different species of fish and sharks. We also saw a sea turtle. Guides Emma and Brooks had a great attitude and provided a great tour experience.
My boyfriend and I did the 7 Cave Kayak Tour today, and it was easily the highlight of our trip! Our guides Zoe and Lena were amazing, providing such a fun, interactive, and informative experience. We particularly loved learning about the different ecosystems and the marine life within them, and having the opportunity to explore Clams’ Cave was spectacular. Each staff member was amazing and extremely helpful when answering questions. We highly recommend and give them a 12 out of 10!
Anna and Emma were the best tour guides ever. Perfect combination of tour guide energy and being conversational. They showed us seals, dolphins, and more. They were super helpful when people struggled kayaking and very kind about it too. The caves they showed us and the information about the place was so interesting. All the other staff there were so kind and helpful and upbeat too
Great place to rent bikes, kayaks, and more. They also have a big selection of swimwear, suntan lotion, hats, waterproof phone cases, and other adventure accessories. We rented an ocean kayak for 90 minutes and had a blast seeing the caves, sealions, and mansions on the cliffs. The only negative was the grumpy guy on the beach who put us in the kayak and launched us without making sure the seats were adjusted right. Did not apricots his attitude. Other than grumpy, I highly recommend renting here.
Great experience and would definitely do this again...The guides we had (Sam, Anthony, Justin? He had an awesome Australian accent) were great!!!! So helpful. So animated. So funny. Soooo much fun overall.Sadly, we had "A typical weather" and couldn't get to the caves but the guides still made it a ton of fun.P.s. She wasn't one of our guides but Elaine was a complete bad @$$. She is awesome and works hard for her money.Remember to tip your guides, they do this multiple times a day and you'll understand sore after your session, now imagine 3 or 4 of them in a single day.
Amazing and patient service! We are locals who decided to book some kayaks at the last minute, but our schedules were completely off. The Bike and Kayak Tours Team (and Donny) were very accommodating to our requests, while ensuring that we were compliant and safe. We will be back for sure!
My wife and I went snorkeling with this firm. I booked on line and everything went well. The equipment was in good repair. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. We made our way to La Jolla Caves where snorkeling was incredibly fun fun and educational. We felt safe and paid attention to all day long. We had a great experience with with this company.
Highly recommend doing the kayak cave tour! Our guides were Britney and Logan and they were awesome. Had the chance to get up close to wild sea lions, kayak through a cave, and kayak surf. In addition, along the way Britney and Logan shared the interesting history and importance of the La Jolla marine sanctuary in a fun and engaging way.
This place really deserves 6/5 stars, they went above and beyond. Our guides, Logan and Reid, we’re phenomenal. They’re both Incredibly friendly, helpful, and super knowledgeable. They taught us so much about the marine life without boring us. They ensured all guests had the best time they could. Way to go Logan and Reid, thank you so much for making our first time snorkeling a blast!
We had a fantastic time on our kayak and snorkel tour in La Jolla! The shop provides all the gear you need, and booking online was easy, even with less than 24 hours' notice on a weekend. The shop was a little chaotic, with no clear flow from gear rental to lockers to changing rooms, but the staff was quick to help and answer questions. No restrooms in the shop, however - you'll need to go at the beach, which is a pain if you've already put your wetsuit on. Still, our guides Tyler and Jake were friendly and knowledgeable, and we got to see some great stuff! Fish in the rock reef, sea lions on the shore, and bottle-nosed dolphins which swam right past our kayak! The only other things preventing me from giving 5 stars are the fact that it wasn't clear that the kayak and snorkel tour didn't include snorkeling in the leopard shark area - I was disappointed we didn't get to see any sharks. And the other thing was they didn't make it clear that we could swim in the sea caves. I thought you could only go in with a kayak and that the tide was too low for that; by the time they explained, I was too cold to snorkel anymore. Bit of a bummer, but still an amazing experience and I would definitely go back!
Kayaking in La Jolla is a great experience for all ages and everyone in our group of four were generally glad that we participated in the kayak-snorkel tour. We had beautiful weather, the wet suits fit well, and the equipment was clearly used but fine. Unfortunately the bathroom at the shop was out-of-repair and based on the condition of the sign on the door, it appeared to have been out-or-repair for some time. The "warm showers" at the back of the shop required coins to operate, and while the staff made the coins freely available if you asked, you had to ask and the water flow turned off before those of us with long hair could rinse the salt out. Again, they provided more coins upon request but it was a surprise that showering off the sea salt was not generously available, given the price of the tour. Before entering the kayaks, participants were asked to self-identify if this was their first time kayaking. Instruction was brief but sufficient. The guides were relatively pleasant, engaging story tellers, but not particularly attentive once we were in the water. There were 5 people (include two of our group) who had never kayaked before and four of these people were age 50+. The real challenge arose, not with kayaking, but with getting in and out of the kayak while in deep water. There were no instructions or directions provided for getting into the water, beyond directing us to get away from the boats after getting into the water. More importantly there was no direction regarding how to reenter the boats, and three of us struggled significantly. Only after a participant called to the guide to assist the three of us did he enter the water and give any direction and assistance. All three of us ultimately succeeded but only with great difficulty and some bruising due to initial unsuccessful attempts. Interestingly the two teenage members of our group independently noted the lack of instruction regarding safety and process after we returned to the hotel. When we return we will certainly go kayaking and snorkeling again, but as separate activities and likely with a different company.
Our kayak guide, Logan, was phenomenal. He was great about preparing us for tricky entrances to the seas caves and sharing his knowledge of the local lore/history while paddling to our destinations. We were able to enjoy much of the local wildlife up close, while still respecting their space. Would highly recommend requesting Logan for those looking for a great guide!!
We did the kayak cave tour with Logan as a guide and it was so fun! Logan was so informative with information about the caves, the wildlife, the ecosystem, and La Jolla area in general. We will definitely be going back to do this again, and we will bring our friends and family, and we hope to get Logan again! They make it so fun and easy, anyone can do it. 3 of the 4 of us had never been on a kayak before. Such a fun tour, and the price was reasonable too.
Took the family out on the 7 Caves Tour out in La Jolla. We've gone kayaking before, but only in a lake so this was our first ocean kayak experience. Weather was a nice 75 degrees so not too cold out. The employees there are great and very energetic. The tour had 2 guides to help us out and both were very good! There were 10 kayaks in our group and they made sure everyone was grouped close enough together. They were very knowledgeable. They spoke about the cliffs in the area, and took us by a few caves and we were able to kayak through two of them. There was another one we could have gone through, but there was a rip tide in one so they felt it wouldn't be safe enough. But, all in all, we had a great time!
The reality is... you have options. Yet, if is peace of mind and a memorable experience, especially if you are not a skilled kayaker, these guys really did live up to to their promise of a great experience. We felt safe and well informed and prepared for anything. Guides were super friendly, knowledgeable, and skilled. And while I'm actually a skilled paddler, my partner is not, so we went ahead and did the tour and it was worth it.
Ben and Randy were fantastic guides! Ben’s stories ranged from interesting to hilarious and back again. Randy literally had our backs. We felt super safe with these two. It was a blast!
This tour was great! We booked tickets online ahead of time and check-in at the shop was easy and organized. Our tour guides Brooks and Enrique were funny, knowledgeable, and safe. We had kayaked before on a lake, but on the ocean it was a totally different experience! We loved learning about the fault lines and getting to see the sea lions lounging on the rocks.
It was fun! I booked a kayak and snorkeling tour. Compared to the Carrebean Sea or to other places where I’ve been snorkeling there’s little to see (Except for the Garibaldi fish and the funny Sea Lions). Same for the Caves. In August there’s a lot of people, though, probably this affect the experience. But the amazing energy of Savannah and Jake, our tour guides, made it special and worthy. It was a fun day in a very beautiful place. Be aware that you will wear a wet suit for snorkeling and they won’t let you use the bathroom (they use it as a storage room), so you’d better go before, if you need it. Also you might wanna take something if you tend to get seasickness.
Phenomenal experience! From the check-in crew to our killer guides Sam & Chris! And every staff member in between. We caught a beautiful weather day and had an absolute blast. Ocean kayaking sounded intimidating to me, but Sam and Chris made it fun, easy, and laid back. Highly recommend! Also, I never got a chance to find one of the other couples on the trip so hoping they can get their awesome photo here from my review posting.
What a fun kayaking experience with Taylor and Karina this afternoon! They were knowledgeable about the ecosystems and the area as well as kept out diverse group (older adults to young kids) together and safe. We were able to paddle into some of the caves and see the sea lions up close. Great way to spend a couple of hours!!
Our tour guide Gabe was FANTASTIC! I got sea sick and Gabe was wonderful helping me. Thank you Gabe! ? The staff is young but knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. They were very accommodating and gave some fun facts about the local wildlife. I would recommend Bike & Kayak Tours!
We did the snorkeling and kayak tour. Gabe and Tyler were great! They really knew their stuff and went out of their way to make sure we were able to see everything we wanted to see. I was impressed with how personable they were. I will definitely go again!
Sam and George are great guys. They really made my wife and I feel accomplished after we had trouble with our kayak. If you guys read this, Thanks for the brain bonnet (inside joke)
Went on a kayak tour with Gabe and Kai and had an amazing time! When dolphins got close they made everyone feel safe, making it a surreal experience! They made the tour very enjoyable and entertaining! The beach crew was extremely helpful and kind! Great guys!
A lot of chaos before starting between limited changing rooms, locker assignment, and paperwork. However, well worth it. Even for novice kayakers, guides helped over initial surf and we're easy to follow. We saw seals and dolphin very close. While water is cool, not uncomfortable with typical SD weather ( warm and sunny). Our 12 year old( allergic to physical activity) was able to handle it!
Jake and James did a fantastic job! They were very personable, had great jokes, and were helpful where it was tough. Their knowledge about the area was fascinating. The tour was a highlight of our vacation. It was a bit scary for someone not accustomed to the ocean; but well worth it. I’m glad I went out of my comfort zone and did it. Remember the sunscreen. Your legs are directly in the sun for about 2 hours!!! My husband’s top of his feet and pretty toasty!
Just a wonderful experience! Although the weather did not permit us to go in the caves... the tour guides were amazing and very helpful. It was my first time kayaking and I was a bit nervous, but they explained everything and were kind to us. Hopefully will return again and be able to go in the caves. 🙂
It was a little crowded with other tours, but so much fun!! The guides were great at preparing you and helping when in need. We were able to sit in the cave and enjoy it for a decent amount of time. We even saw a seal swimming in there with us!
Good time overall. The two guides were knowledgeable and did okay. The equipment needs to be better maintained and the guides need to speak up when giving the info out about the area while in the water. Some people in our group didn't understand the basics about using a kayak and weren't told. Not sure why they offered us to snorkel & when 2 in my party said yes it didn't happen. Overall, cool experience but most likely a 1 time thing for the cost vs. experience.
This is a must adventure. Our tour guides Emma, George and Trainee Chris were absolutely AMAZING!!!!! I would give them 10 stars. George was funny and entertaining. Emma was so sweet and accommodating. They both love their jobs. I will definitely be coming back again and requesting them.
A superb experience. Enrique was our tour guide and he was the best. Great and jokey, and when I got tired he even towed me back to my kayak. I've never been past the shore before today and if you're apprehensive because of that DONT. It's scary but it's very safe and a wonderful experience.
Logan and Ethan were very nice and interactive with the group. It was my first time kayaking in the ocean and it was very fun. It was very fun jumping into the water in the middle of the ocean. I hope Logan and Ethan get employee of the month. My friend wants to hook up with Ethan. 5/5 nice time
Enjoyed our time out on the water with Jack today! He was knowledgeable and great at his job; we had fun listening to his stories and jokes.I was nervous heading out as the surf was a little heavy, but the guys on the shore made sure we got out safely. Once we were past the breakers, it was a breeze! On the way back in we ended up tipping (despite the guide who swam out to help us in), but it was actually enjoyable and refreshing after sitting in the sun for a while. We couldn't kayak the caves because of the water conditions, so they gave us vouchers to go to the Cave Store. I really appreciate that extra detail; they make sure their customers are taken care of.All in all, I'm now wondering why it took me so long to finally do this tour. I would go out with this company again tomorrow!
Had an amazing experience. George was a GREAT guide. Provided some really awesome and interesting information. Kept the group super engaged. Couldn't have asked for a better guide. Seeing the wildlife and kayaking through the caves was so cool. Overall, great experience!
This is a great experience. The guides like to have fun and make corny dad jokes when they are telling stories of the history. I did this tour a couple years ago and it was just as good today. They offer renting a go pro but they don't have anywhere to mount it. If you have your own and have a mount to attach to the kayak or the helmet, I would recommend bringing.
Rachel and Claudia were awesome tour guides! They had great stories, were funny and engaging for the whole group. I can't wait to come back with more of my friends!
First time kayaker here!!! Patty and Gabby gave me the best tour and was super helpful guiding me on how to control the kayak. I loved the cave experience and the history of the caves and La Jolla, very informative. Will definitely kayak with this crew again!!!
We had a wonderful sunset tour with Patty and Jack. They did a great job of entertaining my kids with silly jokes and were fun to work with. Highly recommend. Kids ages (6,13)
We went on a kayaking tour for the cave. It’s a good time, but the tour was not close to what we expected. It’s disappointing that you kayaked to a cave that can be reached easily. There were crowded with people, surfing, kayaking, swimming or jumping into the water from the cliff. We didn’t even get to kayak inside the cave, it’s literally in and out. Kayaking can always be fun, but the tour is not worth the money. Plus, the changing space and lockers in the store can also be very crowded. We wouldn’t do this again, not recommended.
Our guides were great, Savannah, Jake and George! However, I felt the whole experience was underwhelming, especially for the price. While it is a two hour tour, the actual time on the water is closer to 90 minutes. It also consists of a lot of sitting on the water and bumping into other kayaks while listening to the guides. Found this a little boring in general and really didn't like it as a result of COVID because it caused everyone to be too close together. We did the 7 caves tour, but you only go into ONE cave. I realize this is for safety reasons, but again I just found it boring and underwhelming. Basically, you could definitely rent your own kayak or just snorkel/swim for the same experience we had and it would be a fraction of the cost. Overall, would not recommend this - better to go create your own adventure!
Such a wonderful experience with our family here during their kayak tour by la Jolla coves. Jake and Havana were exceptional tour guides and super fun and entertaining!! We highly we recommend this to anyone ? Blessings.
The guided kayak tour was fun, the staff was friendly and funny, but I got SO SICK. I have kayaked and rafted dozens of times, but never on the ocean. The water was a bit choppy too, which didn’t help. The guided tour is 2 hours and we kayaked out to La Jolla Coves. My wife and I did a double kayak, and I am so glad because she carried us while I was sick and throwing up (sorry for the detail haha). Sam and Brian both made the trip great. Brian hung back with us and kept checking up on me. Overall I recommend—but maybe take some Dramamine or a sea sickness bracelet or something!
We had so much fun! The team really helped to keep us calm when we were nervous about going through the waves to get out! And most of all Claudia really topped off!! She was so nice and had a lot of fun and educational stories! Even when I was ready turn back after hearing about the saltwater crocodiles ?, she drew ya back in. Would definitely recommend for other people coming to visit on vacation!
Really enjoyed our snorkel/kayak trip. Our guides Abby and Jack were great. I think we missed skipped going through some of the caves though. Overall really enjoyed it and would do it again.
The stuff and prepping at the store was ok, well organized.Once we got to the beach and then the water the guides were great ..... funny, friendly knowledgeable and very helpful. We had the opportunity to see a dolphin swimming very closed to us.For the tour itself.... i don't know, due to the time of the day, the wind had picked up and we were unable to get close to the caves. Only one cave is actually accessible for the Kayak... we were pulled in by Eliot; the water was amazingly clear, a few sea lions and we headed out after a few minutes. The area is crowded with other stores tours, we had to wait a couple of times until we we able to proceed.Once we were back at the beach, we were pulled in by a staff member closer to shore, we just went to the store, returned the vest and helmet. The showers were not working and it was very disappointing because we had to travel over two hours coming back home, and it was uncomfortable with the salty water.Overall I really like it, it was a nice experience.
This tour was so much fun! Thank you to Emma for showing us how incredible kayaking can be. She was so funny, and knew exactly how to keep the tour group engaged. We were so excited to get out on the water on our own, even to the point where we got our own kayak + paddle board! Again thank you guys for this amazing experience, and we hope all is well!- The Flores Family
Our family of 4 loved the cave kayaking adventure! Marisa was our guide and was fun, energetic and knowledgeable. Our 14 and 11 year olds did great on 2-person kayaks with an adult each. We spotted leopard sharks (harmless), countless sea lions, pelicans and other marine life. I recommend a waterproof camera/phone case with a lanyard if you want pics.
Although the kayaking and snorkeling was fun and Jacob, our tour guide, was great. There were no precautions taken to decrease the risk of spreading covid. At times there were more than 20 people in the back getting geared up. There was no staggering or limiting the flow of people. The staff giving out the gear at times were dismissive of questions and instructions of what to do next were not always clear.
Our tour guides Claudia and Enrique were amazing! Very personable, funny and made our experience better than expected! This tour was amazing! Taught us a lot about La Jolla, ocean life and California. Snorkeling was breathtaking!10/10 recommend
This was such an awesome experience! Our guides Enrique and Jack were full of knowledge and personality. We laughed a lot, learned a lot and truly enjoyed our time in the water. I highly recommend this tour!
We took a kayaking tour on the ocean; our guides were personable and kept it fun with the humor. It was hard work but a cool way to be out in the water.
Camden was the best getting my girlfriend and I into the water!!! I was nervous and he said he could hook it up by getting me through when there was little to no waves, so I was like omg yes the plug! Then as we kayaked our way into the great blue ocean with huge tsunami looking waves, he chanted us on and made it fun overall. He definitely needs a raise because he made me, and I’m sure others, feel safe as they adventure into doing something they’ve never done before. You can tell he loves his job, just needed to shout him out!
This was an absolute wonderful experience and so worth it! Me and my boyfriend went in a two kayak we got to go in the cave see the sea lions and orange fish, so fun! We rented the bodysuits and made it so much warmer cause the water was quite chilly. The tour guides were amazing and so friendly thanks Courtney and Sophie!
Brittney & Kyle were great!! They were knowledgeable and super friendly. They ensure we enjoyed ourselves and had a good time the tour. The caves are beautiful and the seeing the sea lions inside the cave made it even better! I totally recommend this tour! I got it through Groupon which save me some $$, so check for deala first before booking. The water was chilly but the sun was out so it wasn't too bad.
